The Directors' Cup is an annual award presented to the top-performing Division I collegiate athletics programs in the United States. The award is sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), and is based on an analysis of each program's performance across a wide range of sports, including both men's and women's teams.
Points are awarded based on a team's finish in various NCAA championship events, with a different number of points awarded for each sport depending on its level of national participation. The total point score is then divided by the number of sports in which a program competes, giving a composite score that reflects a program's overall athletic success.
The award was first presented in 1993, and has since become a widely recognized measure of excellence in collegiate athletics. Stanford University has won the award 24 times, more than any other institution, followed by UCLA with 13 wins and North Carolina with six.
